Much like the waistband of MacGyver’s trousers, Immortals of Aveum opts for a unique approach in the first-person shooter genre by banishing guns in favor of magic. Developed by Ascendant Studios, this bold decision adds a spellbinding twist to the traditional FPS formula. Instead of conventional firearms, players unleash barrages of brightly-colored spells, transforming them into formidable warlocks amidst a fantastical backdrop.

The game’s blend of high-fantasy adventure with FPS mechanics creates a captivating experience reminiscent of Wolfenstein meets Doctor Strange. Set in the world of Aveum, where magic intertwines with advanced technology, players embark on a journey as Jak, a rare Triarch bestowed with unparalleled magical abilities. Amidst the chaos of the Everwar, a conflict for control over Aveum’s magic, Jak must navigate through intricate puzzles and intense firefights, unraveling the mysteries of this vibrant world.

Aveum’s arcanepunk aesthetic, characterized by its fusion of magic and technology, offers a visually stunning backdrop for players to explore. From towering castles to ramshackle slums, the world of Aveum is a testament to the game’s imaginative design. Despite occasional narrative complexities, the storyline remains engaging, peppered with twists and ecological parables that add depth to the experience.

One notable departure from traditional fantasy tropes is the game’s use of modern vernacular in dialogue, injecting a refreshing contemporary feel into Aveum’s narrative. While some may find Jak’s Generation Z angst off-putting, the overall performances and dialogue strike a balance between accessibility and authenticity.

With over 20 hours of gameplay on default difficulty, Immortals of Aveum offers a substantial single-player experience. The game’s linear progression, punctuated by diverse environments and challenging puzzles, keeps players immersed in its richly detailed world. Despite minor frustrations with Jak’s mobility and communication around inaccessible areas, the game’s extensive list of abilities and spell variations ensures combat remains dynamic and engaging.

Combat in Aveum is a spectacle to behold, characterized by frantic spellcasting and dazzling visual effects. Players must master a variety of spells and abilities, strategically switching between them to overcome formidable foes. While the controller gymnastics required may be daunting at times, the fluid movement and responsive controls contribute to the game’s exhilarating combat experience.

Overall, Immortals of Aveum delivers a refreshing take on the FPS genre, blending magic and mayhem in a captivating fantasy world. With its striking visuals, compelling storyline, and dynamic combat mechanics, Aveum offers a spellbinding journey for players seeking an immersive and exhilarating gaming experience.

2: Minecraft-Legends (PS4 & PS5)

In the New adventure of Minecraft the developers decided to users a ‘creative survival formula’ to give players a strategy experience instead. Mojang and Blackbird Interactive have joined forces to create a groundbreaking experience, introducing players to a whole new level of tactical gameplay, Oh and btw ! it’s one year anniversary is due on April 18 2024

Minecraft Legends introduces players to the strategic intricacies of the action-RTS genre through its simplified yet compelling gameplay mechanics. Set in the iconic Minecraft universe, players must thwart the invading forces of Piglins by exploring procedurally generated continents, gathering resources, and fortifying settlements against relentless assaults. The game’s blocky aesthetic seamlessly integrates with the familiar Minecraft style, immersing players in a visually cohesive world filled with vibrant landscapes and charming characters.

Unlike traditional RTS games, where players oversee vast armies from a distant perspective, Minecraft Legends places them directly on the front lines of battle, controlling a hero alongside a squad of summonable units. Each unit type possesses distinct strengths and weaknesses, encouraging players to strategize and adapt their tactics accordingly. Whether deploying Cobblestone Golems for brute force or utilizing Plank Golems for healing support, players must make thoughtful decisions to overcome their adversaries.

The game’s emphasis on simplicity extends to its controls, allowing players to issue commands effortlessly using either a gamepad or mouse controls. With manageable army sizes and intuitive gameplay mechanics, Minecraft Legends offers a smooth learning curve for newcomers to the genre while still providing depth for seasoned players to explore. However, the game’s simplicity may sometimes lead to battles being won through sheer numbers rather than strategic finesse, detracting slightly from the overall challenge.

In addition to combat, Minecraft Legends incorporates elements of resource gathering and base building, further enriching the strategic experience. Players can enlist the help of Allays, small fairy-like creatures, to assist with resource collection and construction tasks, streamlining the building process and enabling players to focus on devising effective strategies. Whether reinforcing defenses or embarking on resource-gathering expeditions, players must carefully manage their resources to ensure their settlement’s survival.

Despite its accessible gameplay and charming aesthetic, Minecraft Legends presents challenges that escalate as players progress through the campaign. From battling formidable Piglin forces to defending against relentless sieges, players must continuously adapt their strategies to overcome increasingly difficult obstacles. While the game’s endgame difficulty spikes and minor issues with pathfinding may pose challenges, the overall experience remains enjoyable, particularly in multiplayer mode, where players can collaborate with friends to conquer formidable foes.

In summary, Minecraft Legends offers a refreshing take on the action-RTS genre, combining accessible gameplay with strategic depth set in the beloved Minecraft universe. With its engaging mechanics, charming visuals, and cooperative multiplayer features, Minecraft Legends provides an immersive and enjoyable strategy experience for players of all skill levels.

From floating gargoyles to rampaging meat monsters, the variety of skulls ensures that every run feels fresh and exciting.

Despite occasional frame rate stuttering, Skul’s controls remain responsive and satisfying, enabling players to navigate treacherous environments and engage in intense combat with precision. The game’s pixelated art style and charming retro aesthetic add to its appeal, immersing players in a world filled with quirky characters and imaginative foes.

While the storyline may lack depth and the dialogue occasionally suffers from translation issues, Skul’s engaging gameplay more than compensates for any narrative shortcomings. Each playthrough offers a challenging journey through diverse biomes, with unique enemies and hazards awaiting players at every turn. With perseverance and skill, players can overcome formidable bosses and unlock new abilities, ensuring that each run feels rewarding and fulfilling.
